Same as the 6 week class but we make short PJ'S

beginner sewing course 6 weeks

A Great sewing course suitable for a complete beginner. Introduction on how to use a sewing machine. Also great if you  have a new machine and don't know where to begin. Bring your sewing machine to class (please bring your manual, if you have one). If your machine is old please check it is working before bringing it to the class. If you do not have a sewing machine I have machines to use.


Course will cover

  • How to thread  a machine - winding bobbin
  • Feet and tools explained
  • Basics on how your machine works
  • General maintenance -  basic stitches
  • How to insert a zip & use Bias's Binding
  • Make a Tote bag and a Cushion cover
  • Make a pair of pyjama bottoms
  • & many more techniques & tutorials


The course consists of 4 parts over 6 weeks


week 1

Intro to sew This covers all the basics to get your started. All aspects  and parts of the sewing machine explained in detail. The importance of different needles and fabrics . Bring your own machine and I will tell you what all those extra feet and parts do.


week 2     (fabrics included)

Make a Tote bag  Using a simple pattern you will make a lovely tote bag. It may be simple but you will learn a lot of new techniques.


week 3    (fabrics & cushion included)

Make a Cushion We will make a simple cushion pattern. You will learn how to insert a zip and will add pipping detail using bias binding.


week 4-6   ( also to finish off previous project)

A pair of  long Pyjama bottoms

Students will need to supply their own fabrics for this project. Recommended fabrics are Medium weight, Cotton, Polly cotton, Linen of similar type. DO NOT use Stretch or jersey fabrics. Please avoid bold and striped fabrics as they are hard to match go for small pattern design instead. You can make a pair for you or a child.


fabric for Pj's  3 meters Adult, 2 meters child & thread for project

if making short pj's 1.5 for adults 1.5 m for  children age 3 -12


For Pj's. I will supply the pattern. We will cover different seam & hem finishes & a button hole.
